John Blair &
Martha ______ There has been much debate over whether Hugh Blair (who married Mary Dawson) is the son of John Blair and Martha ________ of Guilford Co., NC. There are those who believe he the son and those who believe he is not. So far there is no documentation to prove or disprove that Hugh is John's son. Futher complicating the debate is the fact that there is no confirmed date of birth for either John or Hugh. Depending on the pedigree you look at John was born between 1700 and 1725, and Hugh was born between 1706 and 1720. So far we have one participant (#4189) who descends from John and Martha through son John and one participant (#12276) who descends from Hugh Blair and Mary Dawson. Both participants have tested and match on all 25-markers. These test results clearly indicate that John and Hugh share a common ancestor. Unfortunately both participants are part of Group 1 and share the same 25-marker test results with 11 other participants. They are also a very close match to 12 others (off by a distance of no more than 2 of 25). In this case DNA test results neither confirms or refutes the possibility that Hugh is the son of John. While it is almost certain that Hugh and John share a common ancestor, this common ancestor could be several generations removed. While it is still possible they are father and son, they could also be brothers or distant cousins. Upgrading to 37 markers markers might provide a clearer picture. The actual marker values for each participant are shown in the table below.
The diagram below show the pedigrees of the two participants based on conventional research.
