James Blair & Mary (Colbert?)

Conventional Research
The James Blair - Mary (Colbert?) line is the most researched BSGR line. 48 past and present members are researching this line. The (?) assosicated with Mary's last name is because no one knows for certain exactly who James married. In fact, much about this line is unknown, unproven or not documented. It is believed that James and Mary had two sons, Colbert and James. It is also possible that James had a third son, John, by a second wife.

DNA Testing
Seven participants believe they descend from James Blair - Mary (Colbert?).  All of them descend through Colbert Blair and Sarah Morgan. Four (#75036, #83525, #129038, #140666) descend through Colbert's son James, one (#5674) descends through Colbert's son John and two (#14934, #161502) descends through Colbert's son Enos.

All participants tested at least 25 markers. The number of mismatches each had with others is shown in the following table:

Four participants (#75036, #83525, #140666, and 161502) tested at 37 markers. #75036, #83525, and #140666 match 37/37. #161502 match the other 3 participants on only 12 of 37 markers.

Participant #5674 is haplogroup Q. Participants #14934 and #161502 are haplogroup E1b1b1. Participants #75036, #83525, #129038, and #140666 are all haplogroup R1b1b2.

The actual marker values for each participant are shown in the table below.

The diagram below show the pedigrees of the participants based on conventional research.

Conclusions
DNA test results are both conclusive and yet inconclusive. On one hand the 3 distinct lines back to Colbert Blair (son of John Blair and Mary Colbert?) and Sarah Morgan are clearly NOT related. They have 3 distinct 25-marker signatures and 3 distinct haplogroups that clearly show that these three lines do not share a common ancestor.

One the other hand, the four descendants of James Blair son of Colbert, are almost certainly related. Not only do they match each other exactly, but they do not match anyone else in the project. Likewise the two participants who descend from Enos Blair son of Colbert, are almost certainly related as they match 25/25.

Unfortunately there is no way to know which of these three lines actually descends from Colbert Blair and Sarah Morgan. We also have no way of knowing if any of these participants actually descends from James Blair and Mary (Colbert?). Further testing may or may not provide additional information.
